Planetary // Music Collection Analysis

By far the most stunning iPad application out there.

Designed by SF Cal’s bloom Studio, Planetary allows you to visualise your music collection as a Universe, with letters of the alphabet the galaxies, artists as stars and so on. When you play a track (the moons of the planets), an orbit is traced around the album. Beautifully executed, it adds several layers of excitement to the simple task of choosing what to listen to, and brings one to rediscover one’s music collection through a revitalised interface.

The only drawback I can imagine is that it might not work particularly well with music collections made up of individual songs and artists, though perhaps it can act as an encouragement to build up solid collections of albums, since, as we well know in the case of Jupiter, a planet always looks better when orbited by loads of moons.
