Tape Crackers // An Oral History of Jungle Pirate Radio

Rollo Jackson’s film about London’s early ’90s pirate radio stations is finally out on DVD.

Told mostly via Michael Finch’s tape recordings of pirate radio shows, the film charts the history of live and recorded Jungle, Garage and Grime. While things don’t seem to have changed much in the pirate radio world, most of the stations featured in the film like Kool, Dream and Rude FM don’t exist in the same form today, so pick up the DVD at Will Bankhead’s brilliant Trilogy Tapes shop to rerewind (sorry).

(By the way, if anybody wants to buy me ANYTHING from that shop, please be my guest.)

Listen to one of Michael’s tape recordings from Kool FM below, or if in London just twizzle your tuning knob to hear something very similar.

Any thoughts?
