Lärmlicht #4 // Felix’s Machines

Still in the midst of Festivities, I thought it quite appropriate to post about a different sort of light performance, this one by my buddy Joe.

Filmed underground in his Sheffield habitat but composed over the summer at the Mexican Centre for Music and Sonic Art (in Mexico!), this Lärmlicht is the 4th in a series of visual compositions involving lightbulbs (from whence the sounds are also derived).

Have a looksee right here:

I look forward to catching a performance of it soon (keep up to date on movements here). In the meantime, have a play around with your fusebox in your own basement; I’m sure Joe would approve.

While we are on the subject, I might mention a similar audio-visual sculpturo-performative piece by Felix Thorn. I saw Felix perform alongside ‘his’ ‘machines’ at 2010’s Creators Project in London, where a computer composition triggers movement in his robotic musicians. Felix has now released a CD EP on Lumin with recordings of these performances.
