Another highlight from Frieze London which opened today is the piece See Through Window by Glaswegian artist Scott Myles, exhibited by Athens gallery The Breeder.

For me evoking Hodgkin (tamely) in technique and temperament, the piece struck me in many ways – the thickly-layered acrylic on the panes of glass suggests the colouring of our own fragility oft shied away from by many artists, and at the same time, through the robust enstructuring of the window frame, Myles emphasises the protection that our friends and compatriots afford to us. With such a colourful collection of work on display at Frieze this year, one’s eye was drawn in all sorts of directions, so I was pleased to have come across this and would very much like to see more of Scott’s work.

The Breeder is a great and exciting gallery in Athens that I have been following for some time. They also represent another favourite artist of mine, Stelios Faitakis, and they finally have a navigable website.
