The Awá // Survival International

The white border in the image above is the ‘central’ territory of The Awá – the area that this tribe calls home. The lighter patches in the image are parts of the Amazon rainforest that have been cut down by illegal logging. The Awá were labelled ‘the world’s most threatened tribe’, as their territory was swiftly being destroyed, and their people murdered by the loggers.

This April, due to the relentless campaigning of Survival International, the Brazilian government sent in hundreds of troops and expelled the great majority of the loggers, and Survival have labelled the campaign a great success.
