Hauser & Wirth Picadilly had been a stop on my regular Mayfair stroll since an epiphanic moment at a Pipilotti Rist show there in 2004, but I was informed last week that the lease on the old bank had expired and they did not want to renew. While the quality of the artwork in the Savile Row spaces may be of a similar calibre, they lack all the character of the Picadilly space. A very disappointing development, though I was pleased to find out that the Picadilly space had opened in 2004, so it is probable that I was lucky enough to see the large majority of the exhibitions on there. Invariably special.

Thankfully, re-injecting soul back into the untouchable Hauser & Wirth name, comes Hauser & Wirth Somerset! Not quite as accessible for me as a cycle ride away, but very exciting nonetheless! Opened by the Wirths who live nearby, the ten new spaces and the outdoor areas, pictured above, will be inaugurated by exhibitions by Phillida Barlow and Piet Oudolf, both opening on 15 July. Looks real fun.

Any thoughts?
