Sasha Siem // Most of the Boys

Following winning several prizes for her work as a composer of contemporary classical music, Sasha Siem, the sister of a good friend of mine, has just released her début album Most of the Boys, an innovative collection of gently cryptic folk-pop songs, and is touring in support of it.

The album is laden with unusual arrangements, rugged but sensual instrumentation, and has deservedly drawn comparisons with Joanna Newsom for its quirky mysticism, and I think songs like Proof even evoke the darkness of one of my favourites, Julianna Barwick. Check a raw performance of that haunting songlet here, and a forested foray for the rousing My Friend below. It’s a family affair.

Sasha plays London’s Lexington next week on 25th March. Pick up tickets here.
